Materials of Construction in Odorization Systems

Odorizer Materials

In the realm of odorization systems, the selection of materials for construction plays a pivotal role in ensuring both efficiency and safety. Let's delve into the key considerations for material selection and pipeline connection design.

Material Selection

Carbon steel stands as the primary choice for odorant storage tanks and injection equipment due to its cost-effectiveness and compatibility with liquid odorants. Stainless steel and aluminum are also suitable materials for tanks. For tubing, tube fittings, and valve trim, stainless steel is recommended. Gaskets and O-rings commonly use materials such as PTFE, FFKM, or FKM. It's crucial to avoid using polyurethane O-rings. Brass and copper are not recommended for use in odorization systems. Threaded connections should be sealed using a combination of PTFE tape and anaerobic pipe sealant.
